Cool homemade flying video.
This guy lives close to me and flys a Maule. His is a hot rod. Big engine, stripped down to the bare essentials to perform . It is a very impressive plane, but not as impressive as his flying skills. My plane and I could not do what he does, at least I would not attempt these things 8O .
The videos were taken on the Columbia River, close to where I live.

8O 300'! I'd be mowing down a few more of those trees to make a strip that's not so tight.
I have a friend with exactly the same name, and he's an aircraft tech.

Same guy maybe?
The shortest I can takeoff of land, assuming the plane is lightly looaded and its not too hot out, is about 500 feet. I am semi-comfortable at 1,000 feet but this guy is impressive! Most general aviation pilots restrict themselves to 3,000 foot runways.

That pilot has to get home before it gets dark. There's no way he could land in 300 feet at night! 8O
I would regularly land in RC aircraft fields while flying my ultralight trike aircraft. However, my stall speed was only 25 mph. Taking off is more dangerous; any engine failure and you will crash. :( That guy is a very talented pilot. He is also quite a risk taker. If anything goes wrong, he will either be seriously hurt, or killed. :( Spud

He is talented and his machine is capable. They seem to know each other well.
I sent him an email requsting him to take me for a ride sometime. Not that I ever expect to be anywhere near his ability, but I know there are things I can learn from him and apply to my flying.

Maules have very low stall speeds, but no certificated airplane can approach 25 MPH!
Stall speed in the landing configuration is 45 MPH for a Maule, and one can drag it in slower if under power behind the curve, perhaps as slow as 35, but I have never tried that. It is something I practice though, but at altitude. Any out of coordination stall behind the power curve in such a nose high attitude is likley to promote a spin, as often as not, inverted. 8O That would be bad.
