RESORT MOPED KICKER ASSEMBLY

I had a guy bring a moped into the shop recently that is in need of a kicker pedal. All I can find for ID'ing this thing is "ResortMoped.com" on the body, according to the VIN it is a 2003. I am needing a kicker shaft/gear (37 tooth) and an idler gear (12 tooth).

If anyone can help me identify the motor and where I can get parts I would greatly appreciate it. The kicker is located on the right side of the bike, same side as the stator.

Wow, that's a new one on me. Is it manufactured in China? The cylinder head and kicker arrangement don't look like any Honda I've seen, and most of the small engines from China are Honda clones.

I found out that this is a copy of a 1976-1991 Honda PA50 (AKA Hobbitt), the PA50 didn't come with a kick starter on it, you pedaled it to start it.

Thanks for the follow up. The manufacturer of that bike changed the concept from a moped to a scooter; I know I would have preferred that when I was a kid. I had a Vespa moped at 14, and I had to pedal it to start it. If it didn't start immediately, you got quite a workout.

Do you know where this bike was manufactured? I sent a PM to Reveeen (one of our leading experts in mopeds and scooters), but he hasn't responded yet.

According to the VIN it was manufactured in China.

My guess is that they didn't engineer that kicker; it was either adapted from something else, or there is a current thrid-world engine exactly like that. Some research into Hondas of South America and India might get you on the right path. Once you figure out a model designation, you might be able to search eBay for the parts you need (assuming this project is worth it to you).

I found a company called 1977 Mopeds that has the complete kicker assembly, it is actually designed to convert the Honda from a pedal start to a kick start.

It would be great if you were inclined to photo-document the process and show us the repair. It's alsways interesting to check out something new like that. Good luck with the repair.
