Stator wire problems......

ok......

About 2 weeks ago.. I jacked my bike up and changed the tube in my front tire... I re-installed the tire and let the bike down and took it out for a ride... rode nice... the next day or so I took her back out and rodeo for about 30 minutes.... came back and parked her on the concrete pad... went in the house and then came back out and turned my key and pushed the start button and NOTHING... the lights came on... horn blew.. but no start... you say kick start?? LMAO .. yea right... let it sit and about 2 hours later she started right up.. took her out for a test ride and came back.. turned her off.. then tried to re-start her and the same thing.. NOTHING... just like a DEAD BATTERY... this went on for 2 weeks... so I started looking into it... got my test light out... no power except lights and horn.. and lights don't dim when the start button is pushed.. tells me no power to my starter... so.. I put the test light on the starter lead and pressed the start... no light... no noise coming from the relay.. so I got power going to the relay... but no click noise... started looking into my connections and then rechecked the start button... it started.. let her run for awhile... turned her off and again... NOTHING.. after 2 weeks of this I decided to find out what is going on... the 2 wiring harnesses coming out backside of the motor that goes to the stator is messed up some how... when I pull up on them the bike starts... I guess short??? pinched?? I guess after this hurricane goes by I'll need to get out there and see what's wrong... Maybe need to get a new Stator....

Has anyone else had this problem??? anyone know a good price on a new Stator?? I normally deal with Roketa.com out in California.. they want 105 plus S&H..

if you can pull on the wires and its starts then its the wiring not the stator.

The starter solenoid is about 2 weeks old... when the motor is warmed up or hot after about 10 to 15 minutes running... then that is when the problem comes into play.. the wiring harnesses coming out the back of the motor is where the problem is... all lights work except gauges, ( Shift indicator ).. when I pull up and out on the harness, the indicator light comes on and she will start right up, other wise I need to let her sit for at least 2 hours to cool off... I wonder if the wiring harness is getting hot?? or maybe the stator its self is burned??? or wires coming off of it is getting hot?? the CDI.. starter relay.. coil.. plug .. and rectifier is all good... that's how I came to find the problem in the stator... has anyone else had this problem with the wiring harness?? any issues??

Thanks

I suspect the gear indicator switch or more likely the wires or plugs going to it. On most bikes the neutral pin of the gear indicator switch needs to be grounded before the solinoid circuit can be completed.

Hey Mudflap...

I haven't even thought about the gear shift switch... do you know which harness that would connect into?? I have 2... can't remember how many wires are in each... but that does sound like the problem... Maybe when I picked the bike up the lift hit the gear shift and did something to it... pulled the harness maybe??? hmmmm

It'll have 6 wires. first thing to check is that none of the terminals have pulled out of the plastic connector. I think you can see the switch itself by removing the sprocket cover. Its a very simple switch that grounds one wire for each gear and neutral.

Mudflap...

I took the cover off and I couldn't tell if the end plug was in the switch... it just came out... I cleaned up the connectors and re-plugged it... I have checked the connections at least 30 times or so... but I did check them again... I put the plate cover on that covers the wires and started it... let it run for about 5 minutes... shut her off... then started it again... I'm going to see what this does... I have thought 10 times over that I have fixed it just to find out I have to push it back to the house... I still don't understand why when It is hot it won't start then... unless that connector was at fault some how the entire time... loosen up then tighten up... any thoughts??

Grin

Started her a few more times and starts good... idles nice... starts right up... I really won't be able to tell until I take her out for about 15 to 20 minutes... then re-start it... I can't until the Hurricane passes by... lol.. I'll keep you updated on the switch and harness... I am still wondering about the wiring harness and connectors even though I checked the connectors...

chaffed wire or loose connector. downstream of where your pulling. just got to pull on one wire at a time till you find it.

My Roketa/Zongshen 200 had the neutral indicator wire pulled loose inside the wiring harness near the seat area. As a consequence it would only start with the clutch pulled in, even if it was in neutral. The wire had pulled out of a crimped connector where it connected to another wire inside the harness loom.

Tracking down an intermittent electrical problem can be a pain but a little time with a multimeter can usually find it.

Hey Mudflap...

I remember last year I had an electrical problem with the connector... One of the wires pulled out of the connector... I traced it down pulled the connector apart and found the wire was completely out.. So I connected the wire back together, placed electrical tape around it and taped it to the connector... but the trouble I had then was I had no fire to the plug...

I have traced the wires up to the seat and under including all the components .. I just accidentally found this by pulling up on the wires... LOL..I really thought it was the Stator wires... but it was the switch wires...

I rode it for a awhile yesterday... for 30 minute intervals... and cut her off... then re-started and it started each time when before it would never have started... hmmmm I did this 3 times without any problem... Hopefully this is what the problem was...

I honestly thought it was my start button or my kill switch bad... but after I tested both I knew that wasn't the problem... I went through all the possible problems and found that the relay was not getting power to the starter lead... I replaced the relay thinking it was shorting out inside the unit... but after replacing it with a new one the same problem... so went in deep looking for shorts in the wiring harness.. and this is where I'm at now... and this is the best it's done yet... I hope this will help anyone that does have similar problems...

ok... back to the starting problem... I believe it's fixed now... I have been able to start it each time after riding her for about 20 to 30 minutes.... before I wasn't able to start it at all... would act like a dead battery until I pulled up on the wires... It starts now every time... Thanks Mudflap for the insight on that gear switch... and everyone that suggested fixes for this... it's been a real headache.... life is so much easier....and of course fun riding...
