Hello from the Texas panhandle

Hello from the Texas panhandle, I have a 3 china machines. 2006 Vbike V4S ATV with a 171 FMM Engine, 250cc, 2007 Kinroad 150 dirt bike PY150-5 with a 162FMJ Engine, 150cc. Both are Honda clones. I also have a 49cc scooter that sort of looks like a Vespa. My 3 kids have ridden them quite a bit. They have been mostly trouble free. I am having carb troubles with the Vbike. I have cleaned it and it still won’t run without being nearly fully choked. It has a pz30. I have been reading on this site about upgrading to a mikuni so you can find jets and other parts. I plan to do this. I am a little confused though. Weldangrind recommends replacing it with a cheap mikuni. I noticed that there are carbs priced on the web at $40.00 or so http://www.amazon.com/Mikuni-Carbure...ata/B005CXBW1G and others priced at $70.00-$90.00. http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CF0Q8wIwAQ# Are the $40.00 carbs clones and the higher priced real? Are the $40.00 carbs good? I believe I read here that the real mikuni jets will work in a mikuni clone, but the keihin jets won’t work in the pz30. Do I have this right? Thanks for any help.

Welcome!

The first carb you pointed to is the one I've had success with; I purchased several so far. I have no experience with the second Mikuni. Yes, real Mikuni jets will work, and I've had limited success with finding Keihin jets for fake Keihin carbs.

I'd recommend a 30mm Mikuni to replace the problematic PZ30.

You're welcome.

Does the V-bike have any intake or exhaust mods? The engine is actually closer to 230cc than 250cc, and Son of Weldangrind has one in his '83 Honda XR200R. We've finally sorted out the jetting, which you can see here: http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...wtopic&t=13678 If you have the stock air filter and muffler, you might have more success with a 110 main and 25 slow jet.

Thanks, it has the stock muffler. I put a oiled foam filter on it. What would you recommend for this?

I have been looking on the jetsrus site. Can you tell me what style the $40.00 carbs are?

I know them simply as a round slide 30mm Mikuni. They use N100.604 main jets and VM28/486 slow jets. This is the last one I bought: Carburetor Carb ATV Dirt Bike Quad Honda MIKUNI 30mm

Thanks again, I wanted to be sure I was doing the correct thing. That's like the one I am using. I believe it is a UNI style also. Guess my brain was tired last night. I couldn't think of the name. http://www.partsforscooters.com/Uni-...cooters-169-71

I think I understand now. The jets are listed by their type / style not by carb type / style.

Thx

You're welcome. If you choose to buy those items and try them, please let us know how it works out for you.

BTW, Uni makes a great product; I've used several of them. The problem in my case was the filter angle. Even the 15 degree Uni wasn't angled anough to work with my atv battery box, but the one I provided the link to worked very well. Also, I can tell you that the filter I pointed to will fit the carb properly, and it's only $6.99 delivered.
