Higher quality cluster for Grom clones. GPS speedo?

I put in a replacement cluster and calibrated the speedo. It has been working fine for 300 or so miles. Now the speedo has gone crazy. Sometimes going backwards while accelerating then it will settle down and display the correct speed. The speedometer cable and connection to the cluster seem fine. Nothing has changed. In fact the speedo cable is soldered into the 3 wires coming from the cluster. I have a new cluster and speedometer cable assembly ready to go in but I think they are garbage and want something better, but not $600 trail tech better. Any ideas?
