Recent wildfire on some of my local hills. Opened up some new area, and the firebreaks the bulldozers made were fun to follow.

The fire was less than 2 weeks ago and there is already fresh grass starting to grow.

That fire must have been quite a spectacle. Was there any property loss?

Nothing in those hills. BLM land, cheat grass, sagebrush and the occasional cactus. Now it looks like the lunar surface, but next year it will be hard to tell anything happened there. Some snakes and coyotes may have been disturbed, other than that all seems well.

I don't know how it was started. There has been no recent lightning. I hate to say most likley it was someone target shooting, or a dirt bike without a spark arrestor. The fire extended down to the road so maybe a cigarette butt?

It was estimated at about 600 acres, so not too large. I happened to watch it from the air, a friend of mine and I were out flying while it was burning.

When I lived in the L.A. area, I remember the numerous brush fires all over So Cal. It was interesting that the brush literally needed fires to create new growth, as you noted with the grass growing already. The problem was, the majority of the fires were set during the so-called Santa Ana by arsonists, not by natural causes, and with the extreme winds created havoc. Interestingly, fire officials seem to be able to catch those people lately, sending them to prison.

I was up there again today. There has been a rain since the fire, and that was all the grass needed to re-start.

I love riding the YZ.

On thursday we received snow on the high peaks near Spudville.

However, most of the snow melted today.

What tires do you have mounted on the YZ, Doc?

Those look like D952 tires, which I frequently recommend.

That's them.

They have served about 80 hours on the YZ and have held up very well. Between the rocky trails I ride on and a snappy right wrist tires do not have an easy life with me. These have held up well and hook up in most surfaces great. I'll probably replace them with the same tires.
