Has anyone changed the oil in these before? Im having trouble loosening the top aluminum nut after I removed the two allen screws on the side.

Been there...
Get a SINGLE HEX socket that fits.. and grind the face so there is no rounded edges
leading into the hex.. that will give more hex in contact with the short hex on the cap..

Is that the only bolt for the top? I had a tight socket on it and hit the socket wrench with a hammer to "shock" it loose but still didnt loosen. Maybe I should try rust loosening fluid around top even though it is aluminum.

Bike is from 2008.

Do you know if it is 2 chambers that need oil changed? How much suspension fluid/oil in each shock?
thanks

A little PB Blaster wouldn't hurt. My guess is that there might be some galling, so extra lube is a good thing.

I have a similar set of forks, but the caps didn't give me trouble. I did have a challenge getting the socket to sit flat, so I might try Pete's idea and grind a socket flat to remove the internal taper. Do you have a 1/2" drive breaker bar?

Not sure if it's two chamber or not; I haven't taken mine apart any further yet, although I intend to soon. If they're single chamber, I'd follow Spudrider's recommendation and use 250ml of Valvoline Max Life Dex/Merc ATF. http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=10266

Im feeling discouraged....eiether the top nut loosens in the opposite direction or maybe its sealed unit and does not come apart.

It should not be this difficult to loosen unless something else is occuring

I was thinking heat as well. I wouldn't use a torch, but a hair dryer should be ok. BTW, I'm pretty confident that the caps will be conventional right hand threads (meaning counter-clockwise to loosen).

Front shocks work good, Im backing out of the suspension fluid change experiment.

Eevn using craftsman vice grips, i couldnt get the nut to loosen.

I didnt try heat though.
