North west of Yuma

An annual, yet unofficial, Christmas tree burn happens just across the state line in California. For those of you who have ever been to Yuma, 15 miles west is where the Imperial Sand Dunes are located, which were featured in one of the Star Wars films (the one that wasn't filmed in Tunisia) and Scorpion King. Near there is Glamis and other riding spots.

However, if you head north out of the city, there is a long (26 miles or so) dirt road which heads to a place called Piccacho State Park. The annual burn is about 5 miles on this road, which has more rugged riding (versus sand/dunes) all around. Our friend who owns an awning/upholstery business trades work with a guy in town who runs a quad/razor/jet ski rental business, which meant 4 TRX 250 quads were 'ours' for 24 hours!

Photos to follow (although not very action oriented ones) once friend tag us in theirs. Yes, I forgot my camera...

Good quads, and nothing fell off any of them, LOL.

Did you actually drag Christmas trees with the quads?

Not sure if anyone can see these photos, or if anyone is actually reading this thread (besides you, weld, LOL) but there must be a way to get these photos on here!?

Sorry for the late reply...thanks for the photo, Spud. As for the TRX, the only other quad I rode 'recently' was a Suzuki 400 work quad, so very little comparison...I have never ridden any Chinese quad, yet I am sure it is better than pretty much any Chinese one.

The controls on any quad are a little different than 2 wheelers, but are easy once you figure them out. They did anything and everything I asked of the ones I rode (my friend had rented 4).

I can pretty much say with confidence that most any Chinese quad would not have put up with what we put the TRXs through. I know there are some high end Chinese quads nowadays, hence the 'most.'

The event was fun besides riding quads, but it was great to try a sport quad for a relatively extended time!

Come to Washington for a prompt beating. Or head to the Midwest or east coast for a beheading. ;-)

You guys do realize, this is about the only good thing about Yuma. If it makes you feel any better, my commute every morning in winter is quite cold for riding (usually in the 40's F), and for 6 or 7 months it is far too hot to ride recreationally. But mostly...it's Yuma, which if you were to live here, you would understand, LOL

Not many places have perfect weather. I think I would rather ride in the cold than hot.

When I lived in the Phoenix area, I hated being sent to Yuma to work in the summer. It's as hot a Phoenix and has four times the humidity.
On the other hand, the winters are really nice there

It is still just as hot and 4 times as humid!? And I commute on my bike 33 miles roundtrip each day (although my wife had gone out of town for a few weeks and I drove the car. However, she came back, and I had to get back on the bike...3 weeks sitting and the bike started right up!
