Mods for GY6 - DF Monster 2x4

I just purchased a DF Monster 2x4 (see photo). It has the 169.4cc 4 Stroke Air Cooled Modified GY6 Honda Cloned Engine.

I'd like to make mods as I'm building it and I'd like to know what I need. I assume best mods will be spark plug, air intake, carb and exhaust.

Can you point me in the right direction?

You're on the right track. Check into go-kart and mini bike forums. They often have more info on power upgrades for that clone than we do here.

I've searched cart forums and they're strictly these tiny racing carts and I thought I was on a mini bike forum...right? I know that these Chinese bikes have GY6's...just hoping for some direction that is cart based instead of bike based.

My daughters Cazador 180xl has the same 169cc engine. It is completely stock and has ran perfect for two years. I'm not sure what brand plug came on hers as I haven't changed it yet. It will do 45mph on the flat and has pegged 50mph going down hill. You really don't want to go faster than that with these things. I wouldn't mess with the carb or intake unless it really runs bad at full throttle. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. lol Now if you just want more low end grunt I would look at putting a smaller sprocket up front. Last time we went ride out at the Spillyway someone had a 4 seat version of that Kart. It ran pretty good with two adults and two kids probably ages 10-12 years old. They kept up with us on the trails. If you do a free flowing exhaust then more than likely you will need to re-jet the carb. In my opinion I would wait till you get it before spending money on something you may not need. At least for the Cazador it seems to be tuned perfect. May be upgrade the spark plug as some of these Chinese manufactures will put good NGK plugs but most put the cheap Torch plug.

Thanks Jerry...I guess I will just wait. I think I'll just replace the spark plug with an NGK and just keep it stock.

I came close to buying that same kart from APSCUSA then Don made me a great deal on the Cazador and Hawk combo I couldn't refuse.

A few things to check when you get it. There will be an accelerator stop on the gas peddle that will limit the speed. Turn that sucker all the way in or remove completely. lol Also have someone push the peddle to the floor and check that the carb is fully open and adjust the cable if not. Of course do this will not running. You have not released the beast to it's full potential. Now be sure to where the safety harness and a helmet because it will got a lot faster.


Edit: Warning. If this is for the young ones I would leave the speed limiter as is until they become better drivers. I came close to rolling it in the soft sand.
