Hello from Colorado

Hi all,

I'm new to the motorcycle scene-after years of telling myself there's no way I'd ride a "murdercycle" or "donorcycle," I decided to suck it up and try it, because it sounded fun. Well, I was right-all 500 miles I've ridden so far, not counting the 10 or so in the MSF class I took, have been a blast. I've been lurking around this board for quite some time, mainly reading what you guys have to say about the RX3 Cyclone, which I've about decided will be my next bike.

Thanks for all of the discussion-in many cases, it has opened my eyes to how to do things in general, not just with regard to Chinese bikes.

I look forward to learning a whole lot more from you all!

Welcome, we are glad you joined us.

You were very wise to take the MSF rider safety class.

Welcome!

X2 on the MSF course. That's an excellent start.

Thanks!

Thanks, guys. I put another 150 +/- miles on today, mostly on some gravel county roads. I feel a little more confident every time, and really, at 70 or 80 miles per gallon, it's much cheaper than most of my other hobbies!

Detours, I've been following you and Dan Kearney's impressions of the RX3 in particular, since you're both close to home, so to speak. If you don't mind, I may bother you with some questions as the time approaches for me to order mine-I'm thinking sometime next spring or summer, depending on where the wife wants to take vacation

I'd be happy to answer any questions or we could meet up and you can check it out in person.

My mostly-stock TW

OK, due to popular demand...

Here's my toy. It's all stock, except for the Emgo trunk (Amazon special), the Yamaha luggage rack (eBay special), and the dual rear sprocket (another Amazon special). As I learn what I like and don't like, I'll make more changes. I plan to add some handlebar risers along with some hand guards for now, and see where it goes from there.

It looks like you bought the ATV seat cover from Walmart. I just bought one for my TW two weeks ago.

Very nice bike. Thanks for the pics.

I did get the seat cover, but I couldn't find it anywhere locally-it ended up being another Amazon special. I learned about it from one of the threads on this forum, I think, and after my first 100 mile day (remember, I'm a rook and have to break in the ol' sitter), I knew I needed one!

Weldangrind, do you have any suggestions for grips or anything to help reduce vibration? Or will the tingling fingers tend to go away as I get more accustomed to riding? This little bike is pretty buzzy, especially with the stock sprocket-the 47 tooth rear helps some, but after 100 miles or so, I'm a little numb! I would guess that less aggressive tires would make a difference, but as a frugal (cheap!) guy, I really don't see any reason to part with perfectly good stock tires that only have 1100 miles on them, for sure!

I wouldn't change the tires; maybe take a couple pounds out of 'em, but that's it. Switch to aluminum bars and pillow top grips. You can also use padded mechanics gloves, specifically those designed for impact wrenches. You can find them for cheap at Walmart.

For bars, I'm using some from China that are intended for ATV's. They're higher than the stockers, which is perfect for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to check out a pair of vibration reducing gloves tomorrow at The Home Depot-I bet that'll make a difference!

I bought a pair of Kobalt High Performance gloves at Lowes, and I love them.
