Coolster 3150 dx-2 sparking

I just replaced stator/magneto, ign coil, cdi box and spark plug on my sons Coolster 3150 dx-2. Now when I start it it is sparking from the engine to a bolt that holds the foot rest on. Does anyone know what is causing this issue? Ps, I took a short video on it sparking but I’m new to this website and I don’t know how to add a video. TIA.

spark

spark from a bolt to the foot peg.... sounds like a grounding effect... not a spark like from the firing system... check your ground system.. there should be a ground wire from your motor. to the battery or frame ground.. spark from engine to bolt??? does it run.???

The only ground I can find on it comes from one side of the starter. It’s a black wire and a smaller green wire that connect to a piece of what looks like brass. The black wire leads back the the neg on battery. The green I think is for the headlights. All connections look good on both sides of black wire. It’ll run ok for maybe 10-30 sec then quit. I fried voltage reg and cdi. Putting new ones on tomorrow. A friend said dielectric grease on plug should stop the sparking on bolt but that’s more of a bandaid not a fix right?
This wheeler hasn’t ran right or at all for 6 months.

Yes sir. Post away!
It sounds like a grounding problem. The green wires on most Chinese ATVs and motorcycles are a ground wire.
