New pumper carb and what I think.

Ok yesterday evening I went for a ride exploring the corners of a small town and visiting a few friends along the way, The bike feels so much better than before, It will fire up from a few kicks when it's dead cold.

The jetting is 110/33 with the fuel mixture 2 3/4 turns out, I have a faster pick up with the throttle and between the carb and exhaust a substantial feel in power.
THIS BIKE FEELS GOOD!!!

I like it so much I'm not gonna change sprockets right away, I kinda like the low power and am going to hunt down some trails to tear up.

I left out at about 7 last night and didn't come home till well after 10, I loved riding down the country roads in the pitch dark and yep Dan that headlight is bright!

It does run smooth all the way through acceleration but will occasionally die when I'm at a stop so I plan on down sizing the pilot jet to see if that helps.

When I'm cruising at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle and decide to twist the throttle she would run to a point and then you had to squeeze out what little was left.

Now when I give her a twist she has a noticeable surge forward and races to the top of the throttle, I feel it has the passing power and gut for off roading and it feels really good.

I'm no experienced bike mechanic but I feel this was the right choice for me!

I experience the same issue with the Hawk engine occasionally cutting out while idling (#120 main jet, Mikuni carb needle is set to the 2nd most-rich setting, 2nd slot up from the bottom of the needle), especially after riding it hard then pulling in the clutch and letting those RPM's drop. Not sure if it's related to the pilot jet, the idle adjustment, or the fuel mixture screw on the bottom of the VM26 carb near the engine. I can always adjust the idle screw but I like it idling low and not between 1700-2000 RPM's. I suspect the fuel mix screw is a 1/2 turn or so too far out (rich), and the carb is loading up a little much while idling.

Which type of pumper carb are you using? Not too familiar with them but definitely seems to be something that would provide a nice performance boost.

It's a Kiehen not the Mikuni and my needle is also set two notches up.

I'm gonna mess with it, it's sporatic so can ride still as I figure it out.

The Keihen Pilot jets sizes are different than Mikuni Pilots. You will need to upsize to a around a 38 pilot. 33 is too small, that's why you have the idle mixture out 2 3/4 turns.

That's a great price on that...I like that it comes as a whole kit with new grips, etc. Does the throttle in that kit seem to be better quality than the OEM? Definitely share your thoughts on it if you end up swapping out your existing throttle for that one.

He has the same type of throttle housing that came with my pumper kit. I find it to be a much nicer unit than the stock one. A bit more complex, but very solid feeling, and the plastic of the throttle tube is just a tad thicker. The only thing I ran into with mine was the slots for the cable end needed a tiny bit of cleaning with a small file, likely due to a little extra plastic from the injection mold.

Thanks Jerry for the info, I think I'll go up a little. I just took my wife to her doctors appointment and to the store and it only died once, I'll check the plug later tonight.

ChrisWYN,
Megadan found the Carb kit and passed it on to me, He has the same kit but I'm not sure which carb he put on his bike, he has a few.

LOL .. I just seen Dans post, guess I need to refresh more often!

It looks to be a good throttle. I show it in my last vid with the rest of the stuff that come with it.

I'm off all week and plan on riding a whole lot, so far I really like this carb.

Your results of the pumper carb are the same reason I came very close to ordering that same carb. But ended up getting Keihen PWK30 because I wanted to experiment with something that flowed more air due to the ported and decked head. If the PWK30 wouldn't of performed as well as it does then I would got the pumper carb. So far for my setup it works perfect.

Well Jerry I'm messing with this carb today trying to go up on the pilot and just like my previous PK30 I found I have to get a different pilot, They seem to have gone to a different design called a short cold start pilot, I'll order them this week and put in a 115 main today.

Glad to hear the PWK30 is doing you good, I think this will be great when I get her where she needs to be. I almost bought these jets earlier with my old carb, wish i would have done that cause now I have to wait for them to come across the ocean.

The good things is at least you can find pilot jets for it unlike the stock Hawk PZ30.

yes it comes with everything you see!

I had to go back down to the 110 main jet, 115 had it cutting out at the top of the throttle.

The good part is I can change a jet fast now, just cover the exhaust with cardboard and remove the seat and your in business!
