New tires for Lifan GY5: Suggestions?

I am in the market for some new tires. I was wondering what you guys think; I have two sets of rims for my bike and was thinking about getting one fitted with on road tires and one with off road instead of the 50/50 I usually get. I only go off-road maybe once every other week or so, so changing the wheels would not be too much of an inconvenience. Also, what kind of tires/models are favored?

Maybe I should just stick with the 50/50's ? I'm having trouble weighing the pros and cons.

Get some Kenda Trackmasters and call it good. They are about 75%off / 25% on road. The only downside for them is they do not seem to last very long, but they work well and are inexpensive.

Me, and another forum member (sorry I don't recall), both put Avon Road Rider tires on, they are street tires. I was very happy with them and they were cheap.

They will last a long time if you only use them occasionally.

On my Lifanoid (HSUN) used fairly hard almost all off road I only got maybe 1,000 miles out of them, but they provided very good traction.

I like Avons also, but the Gripsters I used to run on a prior XR250L and on a KLR were pretty pricy as I recall. Good 75% on/ 25% off tire though.

1000 miles is a long time if his off-road is once or twice a month.

I agree. Also, we should mention FastDoc is very hard on his tires! 8O I usually get 3,500-4,000 miles out a rear, Kenda, K760 TrakMaster tire!

Spud are u still going to be open to making the custom tire that u had on ur zong? I'm wondering what I should do for my zong since I want some off road tires for this zongmaster. I just was wondering. If not then I'm gonna look at cheap tires.

Of course, I certainly will build a custom, 18-inch, rear wheel for a fellow Zongite. If you're interested, please send me a personal message, and we can discuss the details.

I don't think it's me, but rather the rough rocky/sandy soil and gravel roads where I ride. Also I may consider a tire 'worn out' sooner than other people. I like big knobs.

the track master is a great tire choice. Kenda also makes a front called the k775 or maybe it was k770 (whichever you can find the street legal version of). they are great tires. I had the track master and the k775 and the lifan could actually ride on top of the sand instead of just cruise spinning out digging a shallow rut.

tyre choices

hi, im running avon distanzia am43/am44 on my gy clone. these are 80% on road and 20% off. they are fantastic in the wet, dry, moist n greasy, snow, & mildly muddy. i can't fault them and use them every day on my commute (the weather in the uk can vary from the extremes in the winter!). i've covered nearly 800 miles on them now and they're showing very very little signs of wear. i would definately rate these tyres to anyone.
cheers gary
