Plated RMX250 for $800

Roger and I are going to look at this bike this week if it's still available.

http://kpr.craigslist.org/mcy/3030158524.html

The RMX was Suzuki's answer to the KDX. 8)

It's plated and should make a good buddy-bike and an all around woods/desert ride. Roger does not have a small bike, all he has is the KLR so this would be nice.

We hope to ride there together on the Gold Wing and one of us would ride it home. Dayton is about 70 miles from here.

I've not had a chance to look at/pick up the CT70 hope to do that also.

Too many blessings!

I like it even if it is a 2-stroke.

I have complicated feelings for two-strokes. I love 'em, but I'm actively trying to find new homes for the ones I have.

They have a niche that's for sure, but they are light powerful suimple and cheap to buy and maintain.

Almost the power of my YZ, the same weight, and cheap.

Good buddy bike.

It's really for Roger (he and I will split it) as he has no trail bike, only Hannibal the 450 and Killer the KLR. I don't need another bike, and I hope to make the CT70 my next project.

Looking at it today.

I spoke with the owner.

The plusses:
Titled and plated.

Second owner, he has had it 20 years. Hardly ridden for 10 years since he has two KTM 2 Strokes.

Owner in his 40's and serious and not flakey. Professional sort.

He will bring it here for inspection and possible dropoff.

Everything works. All mods already done. On a RMX these include RM head gasket to raise compression back to motocross standards, FMF Gnarley pipe and silencer, and an airbox mod. These make it's power essentially identical to the motocrosser, but with a bettre powerband and trail suited suspension.

The minuses:

No rear shock dampening due to a leak. I see replacement shocks in good condition on eBay for $100.

Tires good but not new.

Possible leak on fork seal. IF we get the bike I may try one of those seal saver gizmos.

Cosmetics show age, but thats OK.

He specifically stated he is FIRM on the proice and will not come down.

Since he's priced already off the bottom end of the scale that seems reasonable to me.

If I had not ridden Spud's plated 2 stroke I could have passed on this one...

Spud's fault.

We passed on the RMX. It was too rough. It appeared to have lived a life with no maintenence at all and needed a lot of work. It may have been worth $800 but I was not in the mood to fix it up.

Oh well.

He asked me what I would pay for it. I told him I wouldn't go over $500. We'll see how much he needs $500 if he calls me back.
