Valves Adjustment. Some Tips
Tip 1.
Press and hold the opposite side of the rocker to the push rod while checking the clearance. ![]() Tip 2. Use two feelers for more accurate valves adjustment. For example the clearance should be 0.06 mm. Use feelers 0.05 mm and 0.08 mm. Consider adjustments completed if the 0.05 mm feeler is snug but not tight in the gap, whereas the 0.08 mm feeler does not. Tip3. Remeasure the thickness of the feelers used. Sounds absurdly, but in one of the two feeler gauge sets from Harbor Freight Tools, the feeler marked 0.05 mm was in fact 0.1 mm (two times thicker). ![]() Tip 4. Use valve clearance adjustment tool. With some practice you don't need any feeler at all. Here is the procedure: 1. Untighten the lock nut. 2. Rotate the dial (adjusting screw) clockwise until it touches the valve stem. Do not overtighten the adjusting screw. 3. Hold the lock nut and rotate the dial counterclockwise by 2.5 divisions which corresponds (with my tool) to 0.06 mm gap. 4. Hold the dial and tighten up the lock nut. That's It. Entire adjustment procedure took just 10 seconds. Note on Tip4. Point 3 requires calibration of your tool, but this should be done only one time. The calibration is easy. Adjust your clearance by rotating the dial, say 2 divisions. Then check the clearance as in the Tip 2. Rotate the dial less or more, depends on the results. Repeat this process as many times as necessary until you are satisfied with the results. Memorize golden counterclockwise number. ![]() |
