If I am not mistaken ,the Honda xl125 engine uses the same "block" as the 80-100-125-175 and 185 engines from Honda .I have owned and worked on a few Baja 125 bikes ,which I beleive was a clone of this engine ,and for what it's worth those Bahas ran very nice and made good power for what they were .The Bahas had issues with the rear hubs and a pretty severe lack of parts to repair them (I waited over 6 months for a rear rotor and sold a different bike to a guy who needed the rear hub assembly ,he travelled 6 hours each way to pick it up)I would find a broken one and swap the engine into your bike and be happy .

Does anyone have a reference that the 125 , 175 and 185 blocks are the same? 400 bucks is a fair chunk of change for me

I know that the Honda XL125 and 185 had the same lower end but the 125 if I remember right had a six speed transmission and the 185 only had 5 gears. They also didn't have a frame under the engine.
The Honda XL175 had frame rails under the engine. The older engines were wider and bulky but it been a while since I have seen an XL175.
