My New Chinese ATV (It's an Arctic Cat!)

Yes, it is Chinese, but it is not Chicom.

I just bought a new, 2007 Arctic Cat 250 2X4. It is made by Kymco, in Taiwan, not communist China. Arctic Cat imports these quads and rebadges them as AC250s.

Below is a link to a video review of the Kymco MXU 300. This Kymco model is almost exactly the same as my Arctic Cat 250, except the Kymco model has a 270cc displacement engine.

Thank you, AZ.

Actually, the Kymco MXU 300 (really a 270) is priced $100 more than the Arctic Cat 250. I think I got a great deal on this new, leftover 2007 vehicle: $2,599 plus 6% sales tax.

No. I got the 4'X6' trailer from Lowes.

Indeed, the trailer is perfectly sized for my Cat. The Cat has a trailer hitch, also. After I unload the Cat it can pull the same trailer that transported it to the work site.

My Arctic Cat is not a Chicom ATV, so I will post my ride report in this forum.

Here are some photos I took yesterday of my Kitty Cat in the mountains of Idaho.

The stock tires on this ATV grip very well, and inspire confidence.

The Cat's seat is comfortable, and the suspension is very good!

As a new quad rider, I really like the automatic transmission in this ATV. It allows me to concentrate on riding the quad up the steep, rocky trails, without worrying about stalling the engine!

I rode for 5 hours and used 1/4 tank of fuel; I call that good, cheap fun!

In case you were wondering, yes, it does snow in Idaho.

Great pictures!

And I am insanely jealous of all that open space and excellent riding opportunity. I think I'd have to ride a few days to get to that kind of solitude. Enjoy it some for me too, if you would please. 8)

Thank you, SS. Indeed, the scenery here is magnificent. Every time I ride in the mountains, I feel very blessed to live here.

I love this Arctic Cat 250; it is a great little ATV!

I live in Idaho, not Arizona, AZ! It snows up here, and the public lands are gated to protect against soil erosion. The trail shown in this thread just recently opened. I tried to ride my Cat on 3 other trails, today, without success; all of them were gated for another two weeks.

However, I am not complaining. As you so kindly noted, this is truly an awesome place to ride.

It's about the same here now  We are being pushed out of the forest to make room for people who want to walk up to a tree and give it a big hug. Right now it costs 30 bucks a year to be permitted to ride on limited trails...Pretty soon we will not be able to use the forest we pay taxes on.

I hope I did not mislead you, AZ. The mountain trails in my region of Idaho are gated only during the winter months to protect against soil erosion. All of the mountain trails are gated for the winter on November 15. The trail shown in this thread was gated from November 15 until April 23. It will now remain open during Spring, Summer, and Fall, until it is gated again on November 15. I did not realize it, but this trail opens a little earlier than the other local mountain trails, which open on May 15. If the owner permits, you can ride on private land all year long. Public trails at the lower elevations might not even be gated.

I feel a bit remiss that I did not include these photos from my recent ride. In a silent, beautiful spot in the Idaho mountains I discovered this touching monument.

The inscription reads:

In memory of our friend
Darrell Newsom
1966 – 1987

The eagles with him shared their secrets
Came to him a great joy few will know
Of untethered flight on wings silent and bright
From these hills to the sky he would go.

From these hills he spun magically upwards
Chasing dream laden clouds with much skill
Though, now Darrell is gone, in our hearts he soars on
An eagle cries, and we think of him still.

Erected by
The Hang Glider Pilots of Pocatello

Here is a view to the valley below.

I have two friends that have Arctic Cat 4x4 machines. They are both very hard on stuff but the cats have held up well.
