I figured you were the most appropriate person to ask, but anybody else who might have the answer is welcome to chime in.
I have (what I believe to be) a DC CDI on my Lifan, as pictured below. I have a spare CDI as well, and it works just as it should.
I have two other CDI's that look identical, but neither one will respond to my kill switch or key switch; I have to pull the spark plug boot or stall the engine to kill it. Any ideas? My guess is that they have a different pinout that I'm not familiar with. With either of these CDI's in, you can just kickstart the engine and ride away. Not good.
The CDI that works properly is pictured below.
