Pipe with a copper gasket, I dont see it.

I got the BBQ paint, but when you said don't bother cleaning the inside why did you say that, it doesn't need to be cleaned? It does look pretty good inside as far as I can see inside the pipe. I don't see a copper crushed gasket when I took it off the engine part. The exhaust pipe come out in two pieces. At the end of the pipe in the middle were I took it apart in two pieces there does look like there is some kind of different thing attached to the pipe for the connections. Looks greyish if you know what I mean.

Im going to sand the out side of the pipe where I see some rust happening, then paint with BBQ paint.
