I see a lot of signs common of an air cooled motor that got too hot. Aside from the scuffing on the piston and cylinder, notice nthe impression from the oil control ring in the cylinder wall? Looks like the engine was soft seized at some point. A lack of proper oiling could definitely contribute to this. I agree with replacing the jug and piston.
