I had some similar braking when we first got the Mrs. 'Bashan WILL', it took a few 'brake bleeding' sessions with new DOT4 fluid to 'stiffen up' the front brake, I also took the front caliper apart, clean/lubed/reassembled it to make sure it wasn't binding/stuck anywhere.

I havent yet, I will try that today and see if it helps. It feels like it gets firm, and I cant pull it all the way to the handle bar. It just seems like there isn't a lot of "grab" if that makes sense.
