Same displacement, around 230cc if you calculate the bore and stroke. The new engine has an overhead cam with timing chain. Valves are adjustable like the old one, but now with a much better cam cover for easy access. Both the large round bolts opposite of each other are where you adjust the valves. Engine mounts look identical, I have an older orion engine which is the same as the gio older one. I also have the newer 2010 gio and like I said, mounts look identical.

Newer engine is still a 2 valve making pretty much the same hp, just better design with the OHC. They say it makes 10% more power, I doubt it, porting looks identical as well as the valves and valve lift but not 100% sure.

They make a newer x37 engine, again 2 valve OHC but a true 250cc and water cooled. Looks impressive, but again no real improvements in power. I read just recently that they are finally making 4 valve engines, copies of the CRF250R's which look very impressive. These the UNICAM design that the jap bikes use, would love to find a person who owns one with some pics and video. Problem is the price of these bikes are up at 3-4grand, you might as well get the real thing used IMO. If the price came down to 2500 it looks like it could be really popular.
