Thanks for the additional photos, Doc. Yes, after I re-examined the original photograph, I noticed the apparent bulge was an optical illusion. Your CDI unit has a different part number than the 200GY-2 motorcycle, which is LY200 607009.

The small filter appears to be coming from the crankcase ventilation hose. I believe this hose originally emptied into the carburetor intake area. I think this hose was disconnected, and the small filter was substituted to prevent oil from being sucked into the carburetor intake.
