Do you have a welder? You could fabricate a steel battery box instead of fiberglass; I'm not sold on the durability of 'glass on a quad.
BTW, my Dad had a '73 Kawi 900 that we dumped in a traffic circle when I was just a lad. Loved that bike.
I remember a 750 and 850 Commando, but not a 650.
