The mis-colored ends were on the jumper cables. The bike wiring is fine. I had connected the new battery to the bike's battery leads via the jumper cables, not realizing I was cross-connecting the battery. The original battery was already removed and in no way was a factor.

Made some slight editing changes in post #93 for a clearer explanation.
