So the new Mighty Max battery came today. Checked voltage, 12.64v. Removed old battery and decided to kill two birds. Wanted to test out my motorcycle jumper cables I got a few decades ago and never had a need for. Hooked up red to red on bike and battery. Black to black on both as well. Got a big healthy spark when I connected black to the battery. And heard a loud pop. Almost like a fuse blowing.....but that's silly, why would a fuse blow just from hooking the battery up?
Removed jumpers and checked continuity on the jumper cables. Red to red, black to black. Nope. ?!?!?!
Checked red to black. Yep. The idiot who assembled the jumper cables switched the red and black sleeves on the alligator clamps on one end. I re-switched them on the free side of the clamps on one end, and covered the wrong color on the other side, which actually connects to the cable, with the opposite color of duct tape.
Re-checked the battery, and this time it showed 12.84v. So at least it was not damaged.
I've got lawn to mow and didn't want to get into more bike work today.
Went to Jerry's KPX sticky and found the fuse holder under the seat. Something to do tomorrow.....
