the push rod OHV (over head valve) CG engines tick especially when cold...its normal.
OHC (over head cam) are a little quieter as long as the timing chain is tensioned correctly.
If the ticking and tapping is regular and responds to revs its the nature of the beast...
when things cackle or clunk irregularly or strained is when the concern starts.
