Pistons theoretically don't need to have the same stroke to work, but there are other variables, like wristpin diameter, compression height, height above the wrist pin, combustion chamber/dome shape. All of those factors mean you can't just buy any old piston.

I'm starting to think decking the head would be the easiest way to gain compretion. as there are so many variations when it comes to these China engines it becomes kinda hard to figure out what will work. And we're would I find this key 2lz mentioned and I'll dig through megadan's thread were he did the cam swap I believe he mentioned were he got it from in there.
