Now that it back on the motor and full of gas, a small drop forms on the mix screw. Most other carbs I’ve worked on has a small spring and rubber (?) washer.

Could this also cause hunting idle? The rubber carb mount is pretty cracked up, so that is more likely the issue there.
First of all, subjecting the carb to 150 lbs of air pressure is not smart. Secondley, you will never get anything even remotley approaching decent, REPEATABLE results with vacuum leaks on the engine side of the carburetor. First thing to do is to replace that rubber carb mount....ARH
