That is confusing to watch. His terminology is off. There should be something attaching the clutch lever shaft to the clutch outer pressure plate. When the lever on the handle bar is pulled in, the cable should pull the lever on the cover. The shaft attached to the lever should rotate, and pull the outer pressure plate away from the clutch plate stack, allowing for gear changes or idling at a stop while in gear.

Most bikes have a rod that pushes from the left engine side cover. I've never worked on a bike with the clutch actuator on the same side as the clutch.
