The cigarette lighter plugs have one major fault, they do not grab the plug tightly. As a result the plug will tend to vibrate loose. You can convert over to the Powerlet style which will be much more secure.

I have the CSC dash outlets and made an adapter to mount a powerlet socket in the cigarette outlet hole. For low draw electrical gear this works just fine. If you are powering heated gear the OEM wiring probably won't carry enough amps so a dedicated circuit going to the battery is a better way to go.
a fuze block helps insure adequate amps for extra stuff.
