i use a board called a picuino it has a port that accepts many bluetooth or 2.4 ghz wireless devices, even nrf2401 if your into the internet of things.
they are around $10 and tiny. maybey a third the size of an arduino uno. they can run on a button cell..
i use rasberrys for lots of things but its overkill for the stuff you mentioned. and lacks io once you add a screen or other boards to it.. that said there are gpio boards available..
it depends how far you want to go. i like to size the machine for the job at hand.
but if your looking for a development platform for future mods then it makes more sense..
coding the rasberry is much more involved, where the arduino platform has many examples to gleen info from. c code is easy, i find myself using perl and python alot on the rasberry pi.
