So Gerry just installed my new engine and he sent me these break in recommendations.
- Keep engine below 7000 RPM for the first 500 miles.
- Vary RPM and throttle angles/loads. Avoid sustained RPM and overheating.
- Use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant / fuel conditioner in the fuel tank for the first 600 miles.
- Replace engine oil at 600 miles with synthetic 10W-40.
- Also check / adjust valve lash .003” both in and out valves.
- Do not rev when starting. Allow to warm up at least 1 bar before riding.
- Do not blip throttle during deceleration. Doing so can cause additional backfire since the computer thinks you want more fuel.
I wonder if he recommended higher RPMs because I regeared with a 13T front and 45T rear sprocket. Or maybe 7000 is just fine.
