I believe it is the 650cc 'G' models used a Chinese Loncin engine. I think it has served well and reliably.
BMW's have many issues. Mostly involving he final drive and electronics.
Gold Wings with weak transmissions have surfaced as well. Every bike is a mechanical device with its issues. The key is to not pay more for more issues that may be more expensive to rectify ;-)
