Turn on the ignition key, and make sure the engine kill switch is in the "run" position. Get a digital multimeter, and set it to measure 12V DC. Then connect the negative probe of the digital multimeter to ground. One wire at a time, connect the positive probe of the digital multimeter to all of the wires in the harness connecting to the CDI unit. If one of the wires measures 12V+, your ZS250GS has a DC-CDI unit.
