A decent quality fuel filter doesn't cost much more than a cheap one, and they're less likely to fall apart on you. We had a cheap filter separate while on the trailer, and if it hadn't been for the closed fuel valve it would have drained the tank.

If that happened while riding, fuel would be pouring onto a hot engine. 8O
