I would not think that waiting 24 hours to adjust...

I would not think that waiting 24 hours to adjust valves is necessary....maybe 5-6 hours.
Would like to hear more about your Mojave desert ride (Joshua Tree NP) ?

FWIW I keep my valve clearance on the loose end of the tolerance.
Might be worth trying to blip the throttle when coming up to a stop as...
