Sources for Trail-70 clones?
I have been toying with the idea of getting a trail 70 or clone and selling my 250 Hibird. Does anyone have any links to sellers of the clones?

The classic

this is one that i found. Looked at the Pitster site before but cant find a price. The one with the 12 inch wheels looks too "Gangsta" for me I like the idea of a front disc brake. |
I would like a disc brake too. Looks like a $150-300 upgrade.

looking at the killermotorsports add, I noticed a couple things. First was the weight capacity of 198 lbs. Is this pretty absolute? I weigh about 50lbs over that. The 70 that we had as kids rode us 2 up no problem although we were smaller then.
they have a list of "free stuff" free shipping worth 149, residential delivery worth 98 bucks, a tool kit 19, and MCO 49 bucks. Yet when you opt to pick it up, the discount is only 80 dollars. Still 80 bucks brings it down to under 1000. |
They make fat guy springs. I would think of it as a work in progress. Just upgrade as you go. Then send me all you extra parts.

The Classic isn't street legal in Canada. :( http://canada.pitsterpro.com/bike/overview/id/34

I don't think any of the Chinese ones will be street legal in Canada?

You're right Jim, I'm just bummed about it. Some of the brands are excellent copies of the original Hondas, and they're even equipped with lights and horns. It seems like a waste to me that our gov't won't allow us to have them inspected and ride 'em.

reading between the lines, the clones are not readily available in the states either. Trailbuddy's website says they are waiting on EPA approval.
Pitster pro does not have priceing on the internet. Lifans are available but I dont want to take a chance with Lifan. Just need to keep looking and exploring all options. I wonder if a older Honda would be more desirable than a newer clone? |
An old Honda has a better chance of getting on the road around here.
|
I will have no problem registering the honda. The clones are hit and miss.
|
I guess if a guy got a good enough deal on a clone and then found a registerable Honda frame, he could swap the parts over. Unfortunately, even the unregisterable clones around here command too much money. :?
