Well its official.............we got a mule

We now own a mule.

Its an old used one but does have 4wd and runs but needs some TLC but overall is in good condition.

my sister-in-law got it for us from some people she works with.

no pics anytime soon.

4 wheel or 4 hoof drive?

TeamCheap 10-11-2009 03:01 PM

4 wheel ..... the thing just barely fit thru the garage door at the new/old house.

If I find some time I'll check the valve clearance and put some fresh plugs in it and clean/change the air/fuel filters and hopefully get the U-joint on the front pinion shaft so 4x4 works because the snow is coming.

It needs to be cleaned up and painted and a new windshield and the roof needs to be put on and I'll need to get a seat cover set.

A coworker had one and it sat over the spring/summer. He went to use and it bent a pushrod.

I hope that doesnt happen to this one it runs but it is a bit rough for me.

I'll clean it up and have a look at a few things ASAP.

She has some rust issues. I don't miss cars that look like that. They just get moldy here.

The Previous owners just left it outside all the time and were laughing at my wife when she told them its in our garage, they said
"you are pampering it arent you  ".

I plan to just run it as is for a year or so then I may strip it down and repaint it

I couldnt stand it anymore I had to take a break from the house and power wash the mule (and go for a ride natually) and I took pics of the engine(before the wash).
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSCF0030-1.jpg

I dont have my tools at the new house yet but I did take the float bowl off and there was a bit of rust and stuff in there which could be why it is a bit rough to start when could and it stumbles just off idle.

I got to get moved over there and tear into that thing a bit.

WOW this area is slow...........the mule we have has been great help(and fun) to us in just moving junk around to the back yard sheds and I think it will be a blast to run in the snow.
I expect snow on the ground around here in less than a month but I doubt it will stay long when it hits but soon it will be a winter wonderland.

My brother wants it for deer hunting and running around up north at his cabin and a friend of ours wants to trade his john deere lawn tractor for it but I'd also want the snowmobile he just bought. The thing is worth around 2.5-4k.

I'm all alone.....so all alone........
HELLO IN HERE........HELLO IN HERE........hello in here..........hello in here
......................huh.....nobody here.........oh well.

Today I put the spark plugs in the mule and the fuel filter and adjusted the valves and were they way out of wack.
The fuel filter had a large amount of gunk in it and the plugs were gapped to tight.

After taking a much closer look at front end i see the P.O. bought the wrong part to fix the front shaft but I may just try welding it up.

How is the restoration going, TC? Also, can you tell me more about the nice, yellow, small SUV in the background of one photo?

Nothing going on with it right now to cold and money is tight. As soon as I can I'll get the front shaft repaired I want to take it up to the trails and run it around a bit to see how it goes.
I'm curious as to how it will compare to the tracker.

We've taken the tracker offroading mildly and it is plush and very capable as it is although the suspension is a bit lacking for any serious offroad.

The tracker is just waiting behind our house for spring to come so I can drive it again.

I need to get tires for it but before I do I want to take the tires off the rims and repaint them.

I'm hoping they will replace the front crossmember this spring that has the recall on it.

TeamCheap 02-03-2011 05:53 PM

Just got the mule back together and took it for a ride in the back yard where all the snow is and with all four tires locked it chuggs thru the snow OK.
After a pass it has no problem as long as I stay in the tracks but it really could use a more paddle type tire to digg thru it easier.

I'm just happy the 4WD is up and working.(for now)

I still have to tinker with the carb but it is running even better than before just seems like the idle is just a tad to low.

 last post just over a year ago.

FastDoc 02-03-2011 06:26 PM

You will have a lot of fun I'm sure.

I drove an old Mule last week. FWIW it's idle sounded way too low to me too but it was apparantly fine and did not stall.
