Hawk 250 wet weight

How much does a hawk 250 weigh wet? I read somewhere it's about 278 lbs. However, it did not if was wet or dry! I'm trying to find a trailer hitch that can handle the bike and a cargo carrier to haul around. I'm thinking I need a hitch that can handle around 300 tongue weight lbs. Amazon has one for about $150. With a tongue weight of 300 lbs. Will that be strong enough for a hawk and a cargo carrier?

Hawk weight

Therps.net says it's only 278lbs. But it does not say wet or dry weight. Someone please tell me the wet weight of a hawk 250!

Assume the weight of all the fluids in the bike is equivalent to 3 gallons of gasoline. At a little over 6 lbs per gallon, its an additional 18.5 lbs, plus or minus. Add that to the dry weight.

278lbs would be the dry weight. A quart of oil weighs approximately 1.8lbs. A gllon of gas weighs approximately 6.07lbs. Fork oil is roughly one liter so about 1lbs. I'll let you add it up. It won't take much to break the 300lbs weight limit of a hitch carrier. Throw a few upgrades on the Hawk and you can easily get up over 300lbs. Don't forget to add in the weight of the hitch carrier.

I don't know if the 2017's are different, but mine takes 1.5 quarts of oil, so that is 2.25lbs. 3.4 gallons of gas = 20.5lbs, Hawks take a tad less than half a litre of fork oil. Factory level is 210ml/fork, so 420ml = .42lbs. Just for round numbers sake, we can say it also has half a pound of brake fluid.

Round it off and it's roughly 24lbs of fluid weight, which would put the hawk right at 302lbs with a full tank of fuel - assuming the dry weight is accurate.

That said, if you have the ebay exhaust on the bike, shed a few pounds from that figure easily and put the weight weight just below 300. I also removed my rear pegs and brackets and gave them to a member here who's were missing, those things weighed 4lbs a piece if I remember right. The stock exhaust weighs a lot, especially compared to the aftermarket stuff. Between that stuff alone I have dropped the bike down easily to sub 300lbs wet.
