Upgrade parts?
 
Hi, Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct place. :hmm:
I have a 2006 200CC Lifan LF200GY-5. I have read on different sites that you do some upgrades to it you will have no problems. The bike sat outside for 3 years or so. Some parts are rusted. I am replacing a lot of the nuts and bolts and also putting loctite on just about everything.
Here are some upgrades I want to do
1. Mikuni carb (which is the best 1 to buy)?
2. Rear sprocket and chain. (Started it yesterday and shifted into first gear the chain link broke after running 10 seconds or so I even sprayed Kroil on it. I didn't let it soak long enough though. The chain was all rusted along with the sprocket.) What brand would you buy?
3. Front rim. (Original one is bent a little from a tree falling on it. That what the kid told me.) What brand to buy?
4. Michelin tubes. Front and back. Read somewhere the original tubes like to go flat.

Anything else that you have done for an upgrade?

This is the 1st On Off Bike I have owned and only the 2nd bike I owned. 1st one was a 2007 Ninja 250. I still have my bike permit. So I don't know a lot about bikes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrading the speedo since mine is busted.
Does anyone know anything about these? Want something like this but with a clock on it.

I wouldn't bother replacing the carb, the stock one is just fine. To gain a bit of performance you can put in a 108 main jet (Kehin small round), Unifilter pod filter, open the exhaust a bit with a larger tail pipe and removing one baffle.

Replace chain with a DID Oring chain. Stock sprocket is fine but if it needs to be replaced an OEM is pretty easy to find.

Front rim is standard issue, just about any brand is fine as long as it's the same measurement (printed on the side of the stock rim).

I never had any problems with the stock tubes but Michelin is good. There are some cheap ones out there that seem to be made of cardboard.

The problem with some (not all) of the Keihin clone carbs is the lack of slow jet availability. I've only ever seen one style of 30mm Mikuni, and jets are really easy to find. Here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/30MM-MIKUNI-...ab812e&vxp=mtr

I've installed several 30mm Mikuni carbs over the years, and have had excellent results, since I can tailor the slow and main jets to suit the application.

If you want to save a few bucks, you can buy an RK or DID chain for less than an o-ring. They're often between $15.00 and $25.00.

I've used Michelin ultra heavy duty tubes before, and they're very strong.

I'm pretty sure that your front rim is 21". A Warp 9 is a good solution at a fair price.

Use your existing sprockets until they're worn.

I just installed a simple speedometer with no other gauges. It is designed for a 21" rim.

I'm sure you can find complete front wheels on eBay. I also have a 21-inch, Lifan rim for sale. ;)

Personally, I like the Bridgestone Heavy Duty inner tubes. :)

Let me check and make sure it is bent. Looks like it a little to me. But I haven't spun the rim yet. I'm thinking about putting new spokes and new rim on. I never have done one before. But I can put in remoter starters, change out engines, Head gaskets, so I very mechanical incline. I even build my own fox shock filler for a Polaris I had. If I need one how much shipped to 04401?

What about upgrading the Stator / Magneto for brighter headlight? Or is the factory one fine?
Has anyone done this? I know nothing about bikes that's why I'm asking.
My plastic is pretty bad shape. Can you paint it or should I just peel off what's left and put stickers on it?

my factory electrical system can handle 2 35watt tusk headlights. stockers were 18watt

How much does your guys stators put out? If I am reading my meter right mine puts out something around 40 watts and thats just at idle. I was worried it would cook the battery but I think it goes through the rectifier first and gets knocked down before it reaches the battery.

You certainly can paint the plastics, but not the gas tank. I removed the covers from my tank, and I just keep the black tank exposed.

I've painted the side covers with Krylon Fusion Red Pepper, which is really close to Honda red. Good stuff, and it's cheap at Walmart.

I agree with Weld. Krylon Fusion is great for painting the side covers, but don't paint the fuel tank. ;)

You might consider installing an LED bulb. However, I can't guarantee it will fit behind your headlight shroud. The LED bulb is much longer than an incandescent bulb. ;) You might enjoy reading the following thread. :)
