Hawk 250 cc enduro rear shock
 

I would like to replace the stock rear shock/spring unit with one that is adjustable in terms of height. What are the dimensions or what shock should I purchase?

I am assuming by height adjustable, you are referring to spring preload and not actual ride height?

If that is the case, the Hawk rear shock has a bit of an odd-ball bolt spacing around 320mm center to center on the eyelets of the mounting bolt holes. That means there aren't really any off the shelf options. I have found many similar to these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/KEOG...460.0.0.bw5pDR

The 310 or 325mm unit would work with a minimal change in ride height to the bike. The 325mm one would raise it an amount you wouldn't really notice, and the 310 would lower the bike less than half an inch. The issue with these shocks is that the ends are not the right width for the mounting tabs, so they would require spacers - especially on the swing arm end - to operate correctly. Also, there is no speaking as to the durabilty/quality of these shocks. They may be fine, but you never know.

Your next option would be a stock TT250 rear shock. Since the TT250 is more or less the same basic bike as the Hawk, it's rear shock is more or less the same, but offers spring preload adjustment. The downside is that it is $187, but the upside is that it will bolt up. It's only about $75-80 more than the first shocks I linked, and are proven (and much less hassle)

Third option is to have YSS Custom build a Z302TR rear monoshock for you. This will get a rear shock suited to your bike, specs, etc. Has spring preload as well as 60 position rebound dampening adjustment. I am considering this option, but the downside is the cost at $279.

Obviously, there are other options out there, but many people are happy with the stock Hawk unit

The tt250 appears to be much more like the Brozz than the hawk?

Does anyone know if the Brozz is the same shock as the TT250?

How would I set the preload of the shock? It has the ring adjuster.

Also I have seen these mounted both ways what is the right way to mount it?

Mine is mounted with the ring on the top.

In what way. The item pictured shows a double eyelet style shock with the wider lower shock mount just like a Hawk uses. The rear swing arm is a dead on match for the Hawk as well. It's entirely possible all 3 bikes could use the same style of shock, with only a variance in length. Unless the Brozz uses a fork style (Honda style) lower mount on the shock?

Im almost every way that I can see. The rear swingarm is different, but I've been through the tt250 parts and I could swap 95% of the parts right over. I would agree though that all three bikes could use the same shock and more.

On the factory rear shock of the hawk is there a dampening adjustment of any kind? A set of adjustment rings etc?

Jerry... noticed today that my 2020 Hawk has preload adjustment on the spring for the rear shock... you supposed that's a new thing, or was that always there, just useless and not functional?

It's about time. :tup: As long as I've been having my Hawk everyone has complained about it not being adjustable.

Yes! Mine is a 2020 and has that. Is there a good tool to adjust these rings? I will snap a picture of the shock later today. Also, does the preload adjustment help lower ride height? Its like an inch too high for me

Backing the adjuster ring off will soften the load rating and will allow a little more sag.
