losing weight on a zong200 sierra

felt i had to lose some weight on my zong!

removed speedo cluster (500g) and bracket (750g), steering lock (500g)
replaced headlight with baja headlight and instruments with trail tech vapor, indicators with LED, added on/off switches for engine and lights

removed shock protectors (500g)
removed luggage rack (1900g)
replaced old taillight/bracket/indcators with LED (saved 550g)
replaced handlebar with protaper medium ATV bars (saved 425g)
removed plastic battery/airbox compartment (600g)
replace battery with Li-ion type batt (saved 1400g)

converted to single seater, remove rear pegs (didn t weigh them)
remove kickstarter (300g)
removed exhaust (heavy) replaced with racing muffler (light)

kept aftermarket bashplate
kept stock mirrors

weight loss all up approx. 11kg
a more nimble, faster bike...
the zongLZX200G rocks, IMHO...happy trails to those who ride theirs!

Equals 24.2508 pounds. Now I understand, significant!

I had similar results on our Bashan, so far I removed well over 15 pounds of fat off the bike...

Next up for the Bashan's weight loss program is some lighter rims (I'm looking at Warp 9 or Excel rims) that I will seal up and make Tubeless to save even more weight (tubes can get heavy depending on what Ultra Duty Version you buy)

And your klr conversation is still hanging in? or have you been able to put many test miles on it yet, I hear it gets cooler the further north you go from texas.

I'd like to get a real weight on that. Q comes with aluminum rims. I'll have to weigh the difference between our TT250 and Q next time I have them tore down.

 sorry but that is double dutch to me - does it mean they are heavier than their weight due to rotation? wouldn t that add to stability on the road?

i want to lose more weight, so i only eat fruit salad at night :hmm: eh, no, i mean weight on the zong :D, so should rims be on my list? the frame of the zong200 is always gonna be heavy, but bringing her down just below 90 kg should be possible.

more weight loss:

changed stock tank to a clarke tank and only filled it half!
clarke alum fuel cap reduces weight further...

The main advantage to aluminum rims, is in reducing unsprung weight, and reducing the gyroscope effect, which improves handling by making the bike more "flickable", or quicker handling.
