Zongshen ZS200GY-10 or ZS200GY-2
 

Hello all,

This is my first post to the forum!:hi: My name is Joseph and I live in Peru. A city at about 9500 feet of elevation.

I am looking for a dual sport bike that I can cruise around town with, but also that I could ride out in the hills around the city. I've read a lot of Spud's posts and have been very impressed with his Zong. Growing up in SouthWest Georgia, I grew up riding Honda's and Yamaha's, but I would like to purchase something more economical.

I haven't even begun the process of looking what is around here (Huaraz) at the local dealerships, but I know there are a lot of Zong's riding around here, and I've at least seen a dealership. I am a pretty big guy (6'1'' 200 lbs. (90 kilos). Between the 200GY-2 and 200GY-10 what would you all recommend? Or something else. Thank you for your help!

The ZS200GY-2 is a very good motorcycle; I have ridden mine for over 67,000 miles. :tup: The engine is virtually identical to the engine of the currently manufactured, Yamaha TW200 motorcycle. :) You can learn more about this bike by reading the threads in the Zongshen ZS200GY-2 Sticky thread, located at the top of this Dual Sport Forum. ;)

The disadvantage of the ZS200GY-2 is the unconventional, 15-inch rear wheel, and the limited selection of knobby tires for this wheel.

The ZS200GY-2 probably has a copy of a Honda engine. This bike has conventional wheel sizes, so the tire selection will be much better. ;) I like the ZX200, myself. :)

Incidentally, the Yamaha XTZ250 looks very nice. :) What is the price of the Yamaha?

The GY-2 is a terrific bike, and I would take that over the Honda clone.

It may be in one of your other awesome posts, but could you tell me if you had to do anything to put your 17'' wheel on the rear or did you have to change more stuff out to accommodate it?

Any opinions on the Ronco Demolition 250?

I converted my Zongshen ZS200GY-2 to a Yamaha XT225 swingarm, and mounted an 18-inch, XT225 rear wheel. ;) You can read about my swingarm conversion in the following thread.

The easiest way to get an 18-inch rear wheel for the ZS200GY-2 is to lace an 18-inch rim to the stock rear hub with custom spokes. I have used this method to build custom rear wheels for several members of these forums. You might enjoy reading my custom wheel thread. ;)

I don't know anything about the Ronco Demolition 250. :shrug: Can you provide a link to the bike's website?

Thanks Spud, I will read up on that. Sounds like a pretty intense process, and I'm not going to lie. I might want to invest that money in other things for the bike. So, I may need to find something with two 17'' wheels.

P.S. I don't understand why people assemble motorcycles with the plastic still attached to the saddle and turn signals. :hmm:

Peruvians keep the plastic on about everything new. Car seats, tables, tv's or whatever!

That looks like a nice motorcycle. The stock tires look great, and you shouldn't have any problems finding replacement tires. :)

I like the look of the ZX200 as well. I think I am going to go to the local dealer on Saturday morning to see what all they offer. I'll report back then!

I like that Ronco. It might actually be a 230, not a 250, but it doesn't matter. More hp is better.
