Warp 9 Aluminum Wheel Bling!
3 Attachment(s)
Been on my list to do for some time. I actually ordered the Warp 9 rims over a year a when they had a sale. Rims have been sitting on a shelf and I finally made this a winter project. I disassembled the stock wheels and cleaned hubs, spokes and nipples. I more or less followed Warp 9s guide to wheel building here: http://www.warp9racing.com/how-to/ho...orcycle-wheel/. Take your time and lacing up a wheel is pretty strait forward. You will need a truing stand.
I put a dab of grease where each nipple contacted the hub and used a small dab of anti-seize on the threads of each spoke. The stock spokes and nipple are all the right length to work with the the Warp 9 rims. The front the spokes are all the same but the back wheel spokes have different bends to them depending on which side they thread through the hub. These are the wheel sizes I went with: Rear Wheel (yes it’s spec-ed as a front on the Warp 9 web page) (weight savings 0.75 lbs rotating mass) 3.5” works fine with the tires I’ve picked, they didn’t have any red wheels in the 3” and I went with bling over function... SM Rims (#89-17363-3) Wheel Type: Front 36 hole, Rim Size: 17 x 3.50, Rim Color: Red Front Wheel (yes also spec-ed as a rear on the Warp 9 web page) (weight savings 1.5 lbs rotating mass) Same width as CSC 19” upgrade wheel. MX/Enduro Rims (#89-19363) Bike Type: MX/Enduro, Rim Grade: Standard 7000, Wheel Type: Rear 36 hole, Rim Size: 19 x 2.15, Rim Color: Red |

And here are some of the rear wheel build photos; build photos are always best presented upside down...stupid iPhone orientation EXIF data!

Your truing stand is much fancier than mine. What brand is it?
|
Home built special; happens when you turn an engineer loose with a welder...so brand NoMaas! Since I’m David Maas.

May we see some detailed pics of it? I'd like to see how I could improve on my stand.

Looks sharp. Do they have the fast Orange color??? :)

So you are correct the rim I used for the rear is a front 3.5x17” in the Super Moto section on the Warp 9 site. And the rim I used for the front is a rear 2.15x19” in the MX section of the Warp 9 site. |

Since it was a request here are more truing stand detail photos. Width was dictated by my Marc Parnes wheel balancer http://www.marcparnes.com. The indicator arms are part of large hardware store (Ace) turn buckles and the knobs are from the Ace bits and pieces drawers. Same with the rubber leveling feet. Metal is what ever I could scrounge. Height to accommodate a 29” Mt Bike wheel though I’ve never used it for bike wheels just yet. Mostly just made it up as I went.
Again I don’t know how to solve the orientation problem, if I rotate image to account for it before posting it doesn’t make a difference? Sorry for that. |
Nice stand
Tip on pictures, Take the pictures in landscape mode and they will display correct when posting.;) |
and what size of the rear tyre with that rim?
|
I’m running a Heidenau K60 Scout Rear Tire Size:130/8017 65T TL. It’s rated for a 2.5 to 3.5” rim.
