45 is doable on a 49cc.

The best place to start is with a big bore kit. 150cc engine can be installed too. That would get you to 55 easily.

100cc kit. Everything you need.

You will want to up the carb and exhaust too. 100cc should get you to 45mph.

I don't know how well a 50 will work for your size and 45 MPH...

All I can offer is that a 2 stroke may be faster than a 4 stroke and it may be cheaper to modify.

I also wonder if a guy could put a bigger engine in a 50, maybe a 125cc manual transmission Hondoid? Cheating, but WTH.

If you can find a used yamaha zuma it will nearly hit you goals out of the box. A couple simple mods will have one running 55.

The Zuma is a 2 stroke. 8)

I think there are Chinese 2 stroke 50cc scooters too but I don't know.

Looks like Kato hit the 'Post' button a few seconds before me. That's why my info was somewhat redundant.

There are a few chinese 2 strokes, but they are hard to find. They use the zuma style engine. Most were produce in the early 2000s.

The chinese 50cc scooter engine is pretty common on all the same. If you are looking to go fast then find one that has a disc front brake and bigger tires if possible. Replacement parts are easy and cheap.

Some will have 12" wheels and a long case engine. I would go that route and take the engine to 100cc. Use a 150cc carb and jet it down.

The good news is that for a few hundred dollars in go fast parts you will have really hot scooter.

Either one will be fine. I think the disc brake is more important.

Tire sizes.
