Transmission fluid help for Coolster 175cc
Accidentally drained the transmission fluid when trying to change oil…do’h. The fluid that came out was green, replaced with red universal atf(bike shop guy said it would be fine.)
After replacing fluid couldn’t shift into drive / reverse, added more fluid and now it will shift but roughly. Kinda nervous to take it out riding not knowing if I used the right kind or amount of fluid, any recommendations would be appreciated. |
If it's a GY6 engine, it will use gear oil and not transmission fluid. Post a picture of the engine.

Here is a pic of it from the Coolster website, it looks to be a GY6 engine...

Yes that is the engine that dirtbk188 posted.
Can I drain and replace with gear oil…what kind? |
It will usually be a 90# oil. It is available at any auto parts center or farm supply, or Walmart, just ask for "gear oil".
Most of those CVT units have two screws, one on top and one below it at the rear of the case. You drain through the bottom and fill through the top. Just pour the oil in until it is overflowing out the top filler hole. |
I would suggest the Bel-Ray Gear Saver Transmission Oil (SAE 80W), made for wet clutches.
