Motorcycle Camping
Ok so I think my hawk is a trusted machine. It runs like a top and I've done some shorter trips. I want to try motorcycle camping and I'm looking for suggestions from some of you old pros. My goal is to travel light and keep my adventures to 2-4 days until I work out the bugs. I recently entered into a contract to buy some land in NH and the closing is Feb15. Therefore the environment will be North Woods type of climate/topography. I'm not going to try camping until the spring.
I'm looking for Kit/Gear advise and some general pointers. what is essential and what is nice to have. (For security I got that covered... I am pistolclass after all) :) |
We are thinking alike. I was looking at this stuff last nite. My best choices so far. Spend several hrs comparing and studying (wasting time, need to just buy it so it will force me to just do it)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JIU0URK...O5R8A7Q7&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1SQN24...0LG7NCEO&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER Haven't decided on a mattress yet because I would probably just use my big twin size inflatable one (takes me forever to fall asleep so I will need to be comfortable no matter how much room it takes up) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Tra...r-Bed/14089869 packed in its box it is 12x12x3 would have to figure a way to inflate it however it uses the large quarter or so size inlet. Like you say, might try a few trial nights on the ranch here before flight. Just don't let the deer and owls scare the crap out of you at nite:hehe: you may even have black bear up where you are? This stuff is kind of hard to buy on line since you can't see how large it is. Most back pack grade stuff will stow away easy for mc transport but mabey it's nice to have a 2 man tent such I was looking at. Just may be larger to pack. |
I plan on buying stuff over then next couple of months. Seeing that I did just buy land I think my spending should be judicious. Here is my list of items that I have:
2 man tent Tube repair kit tire spoons 12v and phone charger on hawk 20 degree sleeping bag Mess kit/fire starters I just bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311477903449 Everything needs to be small and light. |
just remember that sleeping bag temperature ratings are for survival, not comfort.
personally, this is my camping gear: |

Well, Mrs. 2LZ and I used to motorcycle camp all the time, and had a blast doing it....but we never traveled lightly. Both of our big bikes could hold a TON. We'd go up to Lassen a lot, set up a big camp and then take day rides out to see sights and carve roads. We used to have folks walk up to our campsite and ask where the truck was because we had so much gear.
Probably not the suggestions you're looking for....... ;-) |
