Riding Vancouver island

I've decided to start a new thread for me and my family's riding adventures.

This is copy and past from yesterday's adventure (Aug 9 2014)
I have a follow up post coming shortly for today's ride :)

Today was my wife's birthday. So a few of us loaded up some toys
And headed to the gravel pit
My mom took Hailey (daughter) for the night so we were able to go for some pretty long rides.
We brought the quad (gio monster)
The TTR and the xr80

My brother came out and hauled one of my bikes on his trailer and I had quad and a bike on mine.
We ripped around a bit.
Then my brother and the rest of the gang needed to take off. So he loaded his 3 wheeler and the xr and was on his way
Me and jess rode around a bit then she decided to park the quad and hop on with me.
She LOVES being passenger.
Only scared her a couple times. Think the bike is faster then she was expecting.
Pegs work great btw weldangrind

Here's us before our ride

The bike eager to go

And us at one of our stops. (Ladysmith fish hatchery)

Unfortunately this is all the pics I got from today.
Trails are a bit trickier with a passenger but manageable. I'm sure I'll get better and better. I'm not afraid to admit I got jess to hop off a couple times to maneuver tight trails around gates

Next time I will try to get more

We might be going for another ride in the morning before we go to pick hailey up.
Probably only bring the 2 bikes this time. But I'm sure jess will want to enjoy the scenery as passenger again lol

Thanks for reading

So me and Jess did end up going for a ride today :)

She's getting much better at changing gears accelerating decelerating starting and stoping. Im very proud of her. She did spend some time as passenger today aswell.

It was only us going today
So I got the 2 bikes fuelled up and ready to go

I usually bring extra gas but today dident bother as we we're not planning to go for long.

Loaded them into the truck. My trusty 91 Toyota 4cyl 22re for the toyota fans out there

The gravel pit is only about a 10 minute drive away. Once jess is more comfortable riding we can drive about 2 minutes to the logging road entrance. Which can bring us anywhere we want to go via logging roads and small trails including the gravel pit.

We got the bikes unloaded

We rode a few laps of a couple different "loops" we've kinda plotted out.
Then jess wanted to park bike and go for a ride with me.

So we headed up to Cassidy lookout. Pretty steep climb but we managed. Only 1 hill was questionable with a passenger. But was easy as pie once we hit it.

This picture overlooks ladysmith a bit. (Sorry hard to make out)

More left from previous picture towards nanaimo
The light spot in the centre is nanaimo airport

Slightly more left showing more of nanaimo

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8A5AA88DBD.jpg

And of course I had to pose for the camera :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...86D44BBAF8.jpg

We left "the lookout" and tryed to make it to Timberlands lake. But hit a gate we couldn't get around.

We headed back to the truck and jess hopped back on her bike and we rode around for a while longer.

We were about ready to load up and jess kinda jokingly asked to try my bike. I said sure why not. Helped her get going and here she is.
She only stayed in 1st gear but was very proud of herself.
She doesn't think she will spend much time on it as she finds it very heavy.

Short vid of her TTR ride
Sorry I have no idea how to embed on the iPad

That's today's update.
I apologize if my posts are boring. But I enjoy sharing what little of our adventures I capture lol. I'm working at getting better at documenting our rides.

Oh no. Jess isn't going to give your bike back. :D

Really, Jess' low-speed control is impressive, especially for a new rider. The TT-R225 looks perfect for her.

Thanks for the pics and write-up; he San Juans look amazing in your pics. I'm guessing we could see Galiano and Gabriola.

Jess' bike needs some cosmetic love. :hehe:

On another note, your last post puts you at 100. Thanks for joining and contributing.

Thanks :)
I will let her know. I think as her confidence grows she will get more and more comfortable on bigger bikes.

She says she wants something inbetween. my mom has a crf150 and it's significantly lighter.
Jess says she's not in a rush. But I think a crf100-150 or TTR125 might fit the bill
We will have to see what the future brings. New toys are on hold for the time being as we are saving for a down payment for a house.

Slow speed control is the most important, and Jess is doing a great job! Thanks for posting the ride report. :)

Jess dident try the TTR this time. But got her bike into 4th gear this time. She's improving fast. Even took my moms crf150 for a small ride

I forgot about this picture to lol
Taken from the back of the gio monster

My brother called me and said the motor on his trike quit. So I had to tow him back to "camp"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...B06637F8DE.jpg

Piston got stuck or something. Took everything we had to pull the cord. We added more oil. Pulled it over slow a few times. Fired right back up lol

Weldangrind 08-19-2014 10:31 AM

I welded a triangle to the rear of our Monster for that very purpose. It has come in quite handy.

Dave_D 08-26-2014 06:05 PM

As you all know by now. I'm terrible at documenting rides lol.
It started promising with a loaded truck shot

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...29C910FF30.jpg

Me and jess had the day off and went for a ride. I dident really get any pictures lol doh !

I managed to do another top speed run on my bike lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...3141576814.png

Then jess asked me how fast her bike could go. So I set off on it.
It's much faster then I thought lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...347DA770E6.png

Jess us now using all gears on her bike :)
We even tryed a slightly more technical trail today. She did great.

She hopped on my bike and we cruised the back way from Cassidy to ladysmith.
I apologize for lack of pictures

Dave
