hawk 250 spark plug wire/ignition coil

My spark plug wire has gotten really brittle and I want to replace it, is there an ignition coil with a plug wire that will fit and work better than the original, and some kind of insolated fiberglass thing to keep it from heating up so much since it's right near the cylinder head and gets hot.

I don't know about the coil, but as far as the ignition wire goes, aside from a heat shield sleeve from DEI, moroso, etc. you can also do what I did and switch to a taller plug cap to bring the plug wire up and away from the engine and exhaust.

This covers the basics of what I did. http://chinariders.net/showpost.php?...3&postcount=51

And how it actually looks installed. http://chinariders.net/showpost.php?...4&postcount=52

This actually allowed me to take off a good 6 inches of plug wire.

As far as the coil side, there are a lot of options. I do know that most of the "performance cdi" coils sold for these bikes tend to actually be weaker than the coils these bikes come with, at least from testing I have seen.

If I were going to upgrade coils (I plan to soon), I would likely do an IGN-1CD coil. They are usually around 40-50 bucks, and include a secondary ground wire that you connect to the cylinder head to help isolatethe primary side of the circuit. DIYAutotune actually carries these. https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...ischarge-coil/

As far as plug wire goes, take your pick of any 7 or 8mm plug wire should work fine. You can buy it in bulk and add whatever boots/ends needed.

When you look at the picture of it installed on the bike, note how it all is now out in the airstream. Taking out the resistor is a good idea as well....ARH :D

Yeah, the magic voodoo of ignition circuit resistance.
